1. Cotard’s Syndrome (aka Zombie or Walking Corpse Syndrome)
Cotard’s syndrome is a neuropsychiatric disorder in which a person believes they are dead or missing their soul, organs, blood, or certain body parts.
“Cotard’s is identified as a component of a psychiatric illness seen in patients with conditions such as depression. People who suffer from Cotard’s tend to spontaneously experience complete recovery, but neurological changes and brain atrophy have also been seen in some cases,” says Dr. Mosquera.
How common is experiencing this nihilistic delusion? Researchers have found it’s a relatively rare syndrome that you see in patients with schizophrenia and psychotic disorders and is often associated with dementia.
