Why we gain winter weight and what we can do about it

Raise your hand if you’ve ever found yourself in a seated position—whether at your desk, in a movie, or even on the toilet—literally counting belly rolls. Come on, we’ve all been there: that fateful moment, usually sometime between late December and mid-February, when you feel so powerless against the cruel gods of weight-gain that all you can do is take inventory of the new flaps of flesh.

Part of you prays for winter to end, but the other part knows you’re nowhere near ready for beach season—which begs the question: why do we gain winter weight and what can we do about it?
